I must have the smell of the season before I can begin to decorate, and for some ungodly reason, we bought a fake tree last year...definitely not with the smell of Christmas. So...here I go...to lots bearing Christmas trees - to Home Depot tree lot -- everywhere I went, looking for that certain smell that gives Christmas Christmas! Not a smell to be found. What has happened to the Christmas tree smell? I asked everyone with whom I met. Most of them took me for a weird old lady who had lost her marbles and was smelling the branches of trees. Hmmph, I said numerous times....and then, there it was...a tiny, tiny branch that had been sheared from a Christmas tree someone had bought. It lay in one corner, with only a few springs left on its spindly branch...but it was there...the smell of Christmas. I lovingly carried it to my car and into my house...and began my Christmas decorating.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good Christmas smell.

Once In A While

Every once in a while, something happens unexpectedly that brings a jerk to the heart and puts a smile on your face. Like the day I "googled" my own name. Hmmm, another Aileen Bennett, I spied. What the heck, I thought, I'll email her. Lo and behold, she emailed back, and a wonderful email-friendship began.

The "other" Aileen Bennett is a speaker and communications coach (wow!), and I invite all to read her wonderful blogs at www.aileenbennett.com . Who knows - there may be someone out there who's looking for a speaker and communications coach.

Every once in a while, something good happens to you, simply by "googling."

Life, Love and Laughter

Life, Love and Laughter

Very often, I wish there were two of me.

The one-me would be a domestic engineer. I would wrap my blue-checked apron around my waist, pin my hair up, get out my neatly arranged (in alphabetical order) cleaning supplies, and zip through the house like a tornado. I would sit back and view a clean, antiseptic domain. I would then whip up a delicious casserole, bake a loaf of homemade bread, make chocolate chip cookies, and smile as my family oohed and aahed over my industrious self. I would excuse myself for a moment to add a chapter to the novel I'm writing.

What a laugh! The "one-me" trudges in from work, throws on a pot of "something," tosses dirty clothes in the washer, folds the clothes in the dryer, cleans the kitchen and bathrooms (ugh), feeds the dog, takes out the trash, fills the plates with the "something," watch my family gobble it up as if someone is going to steal it...and oops, out of milk - jump in the car, go to the store, clean the table, wash the dishes, fold more clothes. If only I could find time to add that chapter to my novel!

The "two-me" would take it all in stride, smile ever-so-pleasantly at the multitude of tasks, and be ever-so-grateful. The "two-me" would quit work and finish the lovely novel. swiftly getting it published. Oprah Winfrey would be on the phone clamoring for me to be on her show with my best-seller. I would fly to Alcapulco for a short respite, and come home to a spit-and-polished house (fulfilled by some other domestic engineer).

Does all of this sound as if I'm whining? You bet! I would whine louder, but to no avail.
